The Dopamine Theory

Turbo Turns / Behind The Door

Label: Release Date: 23/01/2003

When searching for that demo which sticks up amongst the crowd, it’s a case of find that ‘X-Factor’ or that elusive chord, and it’s comforting to see a band progress as recordings and gigs go on. And on. And on. The Dopamine Theory’s last demo was great, but lacking a little something. With ‘Turbo Turns’, the band have found the missing chord (a G sharp-sharp + or something), recorded at the expense of EMI Publishing, and it rocks. It’s not a million miles away from Hundred Reasons, but in a good way. It’s short (under two-and-a-half minutes), it has ‘Look At Me, I’m A Hit Single In Waiting’ written all over it. It’s fast and furious and has a cool chorus and twiddly guitar bits. Too good to demo a demo and proof, if anything, that this band should be snapped up by Mr Um&Ah person immediately. Go on. Second and last tune, ‘Behind The Door’ is less poppy and more mosh-friendly, again showing signs of progression as songwriters. No bullshit here, over in under three mins. Just the way we like it.
