Bauer
Starting Again
Label: Release Date: 21/01/2008
Like someone trickling lukewarm piss into your mouth as you lie in a coma, Bauer are snide bastards, sneaking up with a bout of synth-pop so insipid you’d be forgiven for not noticing it were even there.
Slowly raising its wrist limp the Manchester outfit valiantly pluck up enough courage to drag proceedings into a chorus, with gallant lynchpin Greg Matthews pining “Remember how we stood in the rain? / I feel as though it’s starting again”, infectious like a form of pox that leaves James b-sides rattling round the skull.
Not too distant from New Order’s flatulent 2005 return with ‘Krafty’, but not too far removed from the sensation of having a lethargic wasp lodged in your eardrum murmuring Mother’s Day hits.
