Brendan Benson

Spit It Out

Label: V2 Release Date: 07/03/2005

What? Brendan Benson in Slipknot cover shocker? No? Phew...

Benson - name referring to both individual and band - is a troubled beast nonetheless. Why? Because he/they find hooks the size of 36-hole golf courses in the strangest of places. Not only that, but they’re of an unnatural quality. Clearly there are unresolved issues lurking in the depths of this catchy music: here a potentially argumentative situation with someone, presumably a loved one, is transformed into a pop-rocking blast of carefree summertime fun. At a fraction over three minutes, the song barely registers with the listener until it slams shut; it’s only then that one realises their foot has tapped incessantly throughout.

Those that haven’t yet experienced Benson’s charms are directed towards the newly active Teenage Fanclub as a point of reference, and advised to chase this down and snap it up. Just don't go spitting it out, at least not around impressionable nu-metal kiddies.
