Drowned in Sound is launching a new print magazine for live music fans in partnership with Music Venue Trust.

We’re looking for the founding team to help us bring the magazine to life. If you or someone you know could be our founding editor, deputy editor, production coordinator, editorial assistant, or partnerships & advertising assistant, we look forward to hearing from you.

We can’t wait to get started on this project which is backed by a grant from Music Venue Trust. Their support ensures we can make the mag free in 500+ grassroots venues across the UK, which we hope to launch as soon as this Autumn.

As I explored on season two of our podcast about the future of the music press, there’s something really powerful about print magazines, especially in a time of algorithmic feeds, a deluge of AI slop, and the music biz running ads offshore social media platforms that are ineffective to grow audiences for artists and events.

FOUNDING EDITOR

Lead the editorial vision of a new quarterly print magazine for live music fans. As Founding Editor, you'll shape the magazine's editorial voice, commission its defining stories, and build a network of contributors that reflects the energy, diversity and depth of the UK's live music community.

DEPUTY EDITOR

As Deputy Editor, you'll turn the editorial vision into a finished publication by managing production, commissioning and editing content, coordinating contributors, and ensuring every issue reaches print on time, on budget and to the highest standard.

PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

As Production Coordinator, you'll be the operational anchor of the publication - making sure every piece of content is correctly cleared, credited, and delivered, while overseeing distribution to hundreds of grassroots venues nationwide.

EDITORIAL ASSISTANT

As Editorial Assistant, you'll work across the editorial and production process - helping coordinate contributors, manage copy flow, and keep each issue moving smoothly from commission to print.

PARTNERSHIPS & ADVERTISING ASSISTANT

You'll work closely with the Publisher to identify sponsors and advertisers, open conversations, and keep the commercial pipeline active and organised as the magazine prepares to scale.
